About Kirchberg Plateau (EU Institutions)
Luxembourg's European quarter, home to the Court of Justice of the EU, European Commission offices, the European Investment Bank, and the Philharmonie, across the Alzette from the old city.
The Kirchberg plateau is Luxembourg's European and financial district, a modern urban quarter built largely from the 1960s onward on the plateau north of the Alzette valley, across from the old city. It is home to some of the most important European Union institutions: the Court of Justice of the European Union, the secretariat of the European Parliament, multiple offices of the European Commission, the European Investment Bank, and the Court of Auditors. The plateau also contains a remarkable concentration of contemporary architecture, including the Philharmonie Luxembourg (concert hall by Christian de Portzamparc, opened 2005), the MUDAM contemporary art museum (designed by I.M. Pei), and the European Convention Centre. The Kirchberg is connected to the old town by the Grande-Duchesse Charlotte Bridge, popularly known as the Red Bridge for its distinctive red steel structure.
Did you know? Luxembourg hosts the Court of Justice of the EU, the European Investment Bank (world's largest multilateral lender), the Court of Auditors, and the European Parliament secretariat.
