About Keukenhof Gardens

The world's largest flower garden near Lisse, 32 hectares of seven million bulbs blooming annually from late March to mid-May, about 45 minutes from Amsterdam.

Keukenhof, near the town of Lisse in South Holland, is the world's largest flower garden, open annually from late March to mid-May during the Dutch spring bulb flowering season. The 32-hectare estate was historically a kitchen garden (keukenhof means "kitchen garden") for Teylingen Castle. Since 1950, it has operated as a public garden, planted each year with approximately seven million flower bulbs, primarily tulips, hyacinths, and daffodils, by over one hundred Dutch bulb companies. Each year the gardens follow a different country or theme for their displays. Keukenhof attracts between 1.4 and 1.5 million visitors during its eight-week season, making it one of the most visited tourist sites in the world. Beyond the formal bulb displays, the grounds feature historic windmills, a lily pond, a labyrinth, and several greenhouse pavilions. The surrounding Bollenstreek (Bulb District) along the N208 road offers further spectacular views of flowering bulb fields.

Did you know? Keukenhof plants approximately 7 million bulbs per year, all of which are donated by the participating bulb companies and removed after the season ends.
