About EYE Film Museum
A striking white architectural landmark in Amsterdam Noord housing Dutch and international film collections, screens, and exhibitions across the IJ waterfront.
EYE Film Museum is the Netherlands' national film museum and one of the world's most striking film institutions, housed in a dramatic white building designed by Delugan Meissl Associated Architects that opened on the north bank of the IJ waterway in 2012. The museum preserves the Dutch national film heritage, a collection of over 37,000 films, 57,000 posters, 700,000 photographs, and extensive documentation of Dutch and international cinema history. It operates four cinemas showing a mix of newly restored classics, contemporary international art cinema, and films for children, and regularly presents major exhibitions exploring film culture, visual arts, and cinema history. The building's extraordinary design, a cascading white form that appears to lean over the IJ waterway, has become one of Amsterdam's most photographed architectural landmarks. It is accessible from Central Station by a free continuous ferry that crosses the IJ in just a few minutes.
Did you know? EYE's collection includes some of the world's oldest surviving film footage, Dutch films from the 1890s that were among the first movies ever made in Europe.
