The Macallan Distillery in Speyside is one of the most revered names in the whisky world. Founded in 1824, it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to be legally licensed. The spectacular new distillery and visitor centre, opened in 2018 at a cost of £140 million, features a rolling timber roof that rises from the landscape like a wave, designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners. The Macallan is famous for its sherry-cask-matured single malts, and bottles have sold at auction for record-breaking prices.
