About W5 Science Discovery Centre
Northern Ireland's leading interactive science and discovery centre in the Titanic Quarter, with over 250 hands-on exhibits across five themed zones for all ages.
W5, standing for Who, What, Where, When, and Why, is Northern Ireland's premier interactive science and discovery centre, located in the Odyssey Complex on the Titanic Quarter waterfront. Since its opening in 2001, W5 has welcomed millions of visitors with a philosophy that learning should be irresistible and hands-on. The centre's 250-plus interactive exhibits across five themed zones make it one of the most engaging science centres in the British Isles. Unlike traditional museums where exhibits sit behind glass, W5 operates on the principle that touching, pressing, climbing, and experimenting are not just permitted but required. The Invent zone encourages aspiring engineers with robotics and design challenges; the Explore zone examines the human body and natural phenomena; the giant Climbit multi-level climbing frame teaches physics through play; and the outdoor science garden explores ecology and meteorology. W5 is particularly noted for its educational programmes encouraging girls into STEM subjects. The Odyssey Complex surrounding it also houses the SSE Arena Belfast, the city's largest entertainment venue with a capacity of 11,000.
Did you know? W5's name stands for the five questions at the heart of scientific thinking: Who, What, Where, When, and Why, reflecting its mission to ignite curiosity in every visitor.
