About Château Léoville Barton
A Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in Saint-Julien, Irish-owned by the Barton family since 1826, one of the most consistent and best-value wine estates in Bordeaux, producing classically structured wines prized for their longevity.
Château Léoville Barton is perhaps the most consistently reliable and best-value Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in Bordeaux, an estate whose wines have been produced with minimal price inflation, remarkable consistency, and a commitment to traditional winemaking that has earned it a devoted following among Bordeaux wine enthusiasts. The estate has been owned by the Barton family, an Irish wine-trading dynasty that has been involved in the Bordeaux wine trade since 1725, since 1826, when Thomas Barton's grandson Hugh purchased the estate. The family continues to own it today: Anthony Barton ran it for decades, and his granddaughter Lilian Barton-Sartorius now manages the property. The wine is classically structured Saint-Julien, firm tannins, cedar and blackcurrant aromas, great aging potential, produced with minimal modern intervention and aged entirely in traditional oak barriques.
Did you know? The Barton family have been involved in the Bordeaux wine trade since 1725, nearly 300 years, making them the longest-established Irish family in the Bordeaux wine business. They still own two classified growths: Léoville Barton (Second Growth) and the neighbouring Château Langoa Barton (Third Growth).
