A beautifully restored trullo complex that houses a museum dedicated to the wines and olive oil of the Valle d'Itria, set among the historic vineyards and orchards of the Murge plateau.
The Trullo d'Oro complex sits just outside the main trulli zone and represents one of the best examples of the adaptive reuse of traditional trullo architecture for cultural and educational purposes. The complex consists of a large restored trullo farmhouse surrounded by a small vineyard and olive grove, and it houses a museum dedicated to the agricultural and gastronomic heritage of the Valle d'Itria, the valley in which Alberobello sits. The wine and olive oil production traditions of this area are ancient and distinctive: the local Primitivo and Verdeca grape varieties, the particular soils and microclimate of the plateau, and the centuries of accumulated knowledge of local producers have created a viticultural tradition of real quality. The museum explains the history and techniques of local wine-making and olive oil production, and tastings are available.
