About Fundació Miró Mallorca
The studios and gardens where Joan Miro worked for the last decades of his life, kept as a museum on Palma's western edge, with his famous Sert studio left much as he left it.
The Fundacio Miro Mallorca preserves the studios, house and gardens where the artist Joan Miro lived and worked in the Cala Major area on the western edge of Palma. Miro, whose mother's family was Mallorcan and who married the Mallorcan Pilar Juncosa, settled permanently on the island in the mid-1950s. His great studio, the Taller Sert, was designed for him by his friend the architect Josep Lluis Sert, and in 1959 he bought the neighbouring 18th-century house of Son Boter as a second studio, its walls still marked with his graffiti.
Miro and Pilar Juncosa gave the buildings, works and archive to the city in 1981, and the foundation was formally created in 1992, the year the exhibition building by the architect Rafael Moneo was added. The donated collection runs to some six thousand works, from paintings and drawings to sculpture and graphics, and sculptures stand among the gardens. The foundation took the name Fundacio Miro Mallorca in 2017.
