The second most visited Marian shrine in Portugal after Fátima, a neoclassical sanctuary on a hilltop east of Braga with panoramic views over the Minho, dedicated to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception.

The Santuário do Sameiro stands on a wooded hilltop approximately 5 kilometres east of Braga at an altitude of 570 metres, making it one of the highest points in the Braga region and offering exceptional panoramic views on clear days. The sanctuary was established in 1863 and is dedicated to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, the dogma of the Immaculate Conception had been proclaimed by Pope Pius IX just nine years earlier in 1854. The neoclassical basilica was built between 1878 and 1909. The Sameiro is the second most visited Marian shrine in Portugal, after Fátima, attracting over one million pilgrims and visitors per year. An annual pilgrimage festival is held on Sundays in May and June and on the first Sunday in September.
