About Museo de Bellas Artes de Córdoba
Córdoba's main fine art museum, housed in a beautiful 15th-century former hospital building around a colonnaded courtyard, with extensive collections of Spanish painting from the 14th to 20th centuries including major works by local masters.
The Museo de Bellas Artes de Córdoba is the city's main fine art museum, housed in the former Hospital de la Caridad, a 15th-century building with a beautiful colonnaded courtyard. The collection covers five centuries of Spanish art from the 14th to the 20th century, with particular strength in works by Córdoba-born artists including Julio Romero de Torres, whose paintings of dark-eyed Andalusian women are among the most recognized images of Spanish art, as well as sculpture, prints, and decorative arts. The museum shares the building with the Museo Julio Romero de Torres, dedicated entirely to that artist.
Did you know? Julio Romero de Torres became so famous in his lifetime that his face appeared on the Spanish 100-peseta banknote, making him one of very few artists to be depicted on their own nation's currency during their lifetime. His paintings were shown at the Paris World Exhibition of 1900 and won several international prizes.
