Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 1, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Gingerguide (“we”, “us”) handles information in connection with the mobile application Gingerguide (the “App”). We keep data collection to a minimum: the App does not require an account and we do not ask you for your name, email address, or other directly identifying information. To operate the App we do, however, use a small number of third-party services described below.
Anonymous device identifier
When you first open the App, it signs in anonymously to Firebase. This creates a random, anonymous identifier for your installation so that the App can securely reach our backend, remember your premium access, and validate any redemption code you enter. This identifier is not linked to your name, email, or Apple ID, and it is not used to track you across other apps or websites.
Information we collect
Usage and diagnostic analytics. The App uses Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics to understand how the App is used and to detect crashes. These services collect data automatically, including:
- App usage events (for example, screens viewed and features used) and session information
- Device and technical information such as device model, operating system version, language, and region
- Crash reports and diagnostic logs, including the state of the App at the time of a crash
- Approximate location inferred from your IP address (city or region level, not precise GPS)
- Analytics and installation identifiers, such as an app instance ID and the anonymous identifier described above, used to count unique installs and group diagnostic data
Subscription and purchase data. If you buy a premium subscription, the purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store; we never see your payment card details. We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions and to confirm your entitlement, which involves processing your App Store transaction and receipt information together with the anonymous identifier described above so we can unlock premium features on your device.
AI guide questions. The App includes an optional AI tour guide. When you ask it a question, the text of your question, the point of interest it relates to, and your chosen language are sent to our secure backend (Firebase Cloud Functions), which uses Google’s Gemini generative-AI service to produce an answer. Please do not include personal or sensitive information in your questions. We do not use these questions to identify you or to build a profile of you.
Location. With your permission, the App accesses your device’s precise location to show attractions near you on the map and to notify you when you are close to a point of interest (including in the background, if you allow it). This location processing happens on your device to power these features. Your precise location is not transmitted to us and is not stored on our servers. You can grant or revoke location access at any time in your device settings.
We do not collect your name, email address, contacts, or photos, and the App has no login or user accounts.
How we use this information
- To provide core features such as maps, proximity alerts, audio guides, and the AI guide
- To unlock and maintain premium access and honor redemption codes
- To understand which features are used and how the App performs
- To diagnose crashes and technical problems
- To improve the App and plan future updates
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.
Third parties
We rely on the following service providers, who process data on our behalf in accordance with their own privacy terms:
- Google — Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Authentication, Firestore, App Check, Cloud Functions) and the Gemini generative-AI service. See policies.google.com/privacy and firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
- RevenueCat — subscription and entitlement management. See revenuecat.com/privacy.
- Apple — App Store purchases and billing. See apple.com/legal/privacy.
We require any third party with access to data collected through the App to protect it to a standard equal to that described in this policy.
Legal basis and your rights (EEA/UK)
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process analytics and diagnostic data on the basis of our legitimate interest in maintaining and improving the App (or your consent where required), and we process subscription data as necessary to perform the purchase you request. You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your data, and the right to data portability.
Data retention
Analytics and diagnostic data is retained only as long as needed for the purposes above and in line with the retention limits configured in Google Analytics for Firebase and Crashlytics, after which it is deleted or aggregated so it can no longer be linked to a device. Subscription and redemption records are kept for as long as needed to provide your premium access and to meet legal and accounting obligations. AI guide questions are processed to generate an answer and are not retained by us to build a profile of you.
Children
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above.
