About Parque de María Luisa

Seville's most beloved public park, 60 hectares of gardens, fountains, and pavilions from the 1929 Exposition, home to peacocks, the glorious Glorieta de Bécquer, and the city's finest afternoon strolling.

The Parque de María Luisa is the most important and beloved green space in Seville, a 60-hectare park in the south of the historic centre that combines formal French-style gardens, romantic English-style pathways, Moorish pools and pavilions, and the striking exhibition buildings of the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition. The park was originally part of the gardens of the Palacio de San Telmo, donated to the city by Princess Maria Luisa of Orleans in 1893. It was transformed in preparation for the 1929 Exposition under the direction of Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier, a French landscape designer. Key features include the Glorieta de Bécquer, a romantic circular garden with a statue of the Sevillian poet, multiple fountains, tiled benches, and a resident population of peacocks that wander freely through the park. Adjacent to the park are the 1929 Exposition pavilions that now house the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Popular Arts.

Did you know? The park was donated to the city in 1893 by Princess María Luisa of Orleans, a gift that created the most important public green space in Seville and one of the finest urban parks in southern Europe.
