The museum's collections span over 2,000 years of human occupation on the western Algarve coast, from the Roman and pre-Roman periods through the Moorish era, the Age of Discovery, and into the 19th century. Key collections include Roman mosaics and artefacts from the Roman city of Lacobriga (Lagos), Moorish ceramics and household objects, examples of 15th-century navigation instruments connected to Henry the Navigator's expeditions, ethnographic collections documenting traditional Algarve fishing and agricultural life, and a collection of religious art that complements the Santo António church next door.
