About Mirador de la Pradera de San Marcos
The riverside meadow below the Alcázar where the castle floats on its rock like the prow of a stone ship, Segovia's most famous view, with storks nesting in the trees.
The Pradera de San Marcos is a green riverside meadow beside the church of San Marcos, on the Eresma below the northern edge of the old town. From here comes the classic, most-photographed view of Segovia: the Alcázar riding the end of its long rock, its pointed base and tall keep resembling the prow of a ship above the trees. An open grassy common rather than a built monument, it has walking paths along the river and into the woods, and white storks nest in its tall trees each summer. It sits in the same Eresma-valley cluster as the Vera Cruz, the Royal Mint and the Monastery of El Parral. Note that, contrary to some guides, the Roman aqueduct is not visible from here; it stands on the far side of the city. The meadow lies within the UNESCO-listed old town of Segovia.
Did you know? From the Pradera de San Marcos the Alcázar, on the end of its rock, looks exactly like the prow of a great stone ship sailing over the trees, the most famous and most photographed view in Segovia.
