About SS Rotterdam

The former flagship of the Holland America Line (1959), a beautifully restored ocean liner permanently moored in Rotterdam as a hotel, museum, and restaurant.

The SS Rotterdam, nicknamed "La Grande Dame", is one of the most beloved ships in Dutch maritime history. Launched in 1958 and entering service in 1959 as the flagship of the Holland America Line, she carried passengers across the Atlantic and on world cruises for 35 years. At 228 metres and 38,000 gross tonnes, she was the largest and most luxurious ship the Holland America Line had ever operated. After retirement in 2000, the ship was eventually brought back to Rotterdam, her city of origin, where she was restored to her original 1959 glory and permanently moored at Katendrecht. Today the SS Rotterdam functions as a floating hotel, museum ship, and restaurant complex. Visitors can tour the original first-class cabins, ballrooms, and engine rooms, stay in the restored cabins overnight, or dine in the Grand Café on the original China sets.

Did you know? The SS Rotterdam was launched in 1958 in the presence of Queen Juliana and named after the city that was home to the Holland America Line.
