About Promenade du Paillon

The Promenade du Paillon, or Coulée verte, is a landscaped park running for over a kilometre through the centre of Nice, from the theatre down to the sea near Place Masséna. Opened in 2013 and designed by the landscape architect Michel Péna, it was laid out over the covered river Paillon, on the site of a former bus station and car park, and planted with some 1,600 trees among lawns, flowerbeds and play areas. Its signature feature, beside Place Masséna, is the 'miroir d'eau' (water mirror), a great sheet of stone that alternately reflects the sky as a film of water and erupts in 128 ground jets; a separate mist plateau offers more water play. Widely loved as the city's 'green lung', it was extended in 2025. It lies within the historic city of Nice.
