About Corniche Kennedy
Marseille's iconic 5km coastal road along dramatic limestone cliffs, with views of the Frioul islands, beach coves, and the full expanse of the Mediterranean.
The Corniche Kennedy is one of the great urban coastal drives of Europe, a 5-kilometre stretch of road that clings to the limestone cliffs along Marseille's southern seafront, offering continuous views over the open Mediterranean and the offshore islands. Named after President John F. Kennedy following his assassination in 1963, the road runs south from the Vieux-Port past the Plage des Catalans, over rocky headlands, past clifftop villas and the Jardin Valmer, to the broad sandy beaches of the Plage du Prado. Along the way, small beaches and swimming spots nestle between the rocks, popular with Marseille residents who treat this coastline as their own backyard. The road is best experienced in the late afternoon when the sea turns deep blue and the light turns golden on the white cliffs.
