About Finnieston & Clyde Waterfront
Glasgow's most dynamic regenerated neighbourhood, home to the iconic Finnieston Crane, the OVO Hydro arena, the SEC campus, and Argyle Street's thriving restaurant and bar scene.
The Finnieston and Clyde Waterfront area represents one of the most dramatic transformations in Glasgow's recent history, a former industrial docklands district reinvented as a fashionable residential and entertainment quarter. The area's most iconic feature is the Finnieston Crane, a 53-metre cantilever crane built in 1932 to load railway locomotives onto ships for export. No longer operational, it has been preserved as a listed structure and stands as a monument to Glasgow's industrial heritage. Adjacent to it is the Scottish Event Campus (SEC), a major conference and events complex that includes the SSE Hydro (now OVO Hydro) arena, opened in 2013 and designed by Foster + Partners. Argyle Street in Finnieston has become Glasgow's most fashionable dining street, with a concentration of independent restaurants and bars. The area is also home to the Clyde Arc, the "Squinty Bridge", and Pacific Quay, housing BBC Scotland and STV.
Did you know? The Finnieston Crane was built in 1932 to export railway locomotives made in Glasgow, it could lift 175 tons and lowered fully built locomotives directly into the holds of cargo ships.
