About Hausmannsturm
The medieval tower of Dresden's Residenzschloss offering the finest panoramic views over the Old Town Baroque skyline and the Elbe valley.
The Hausmannsturm, Hausmann Tower, is the central tower of the Residenzschloss (Dresden Palace), rising 100 metres and offering the highest publicly accessible viewpoint in Dresden's historic centre. The tower's origins date from the fourteenth century; the current structure reflects Renaissance and Baroque modifications. From the viewing gallery near the top, visitors have a 360-degree panorama over the entire Old Town: the Frauenkirche dome directly opposite, the Semperoper and Zwinger to the west, the Brühl Terrace and Elbe to the north, and the Neustadt beyond. On clear days the Elbsandsteingebirge, the Elbe Sandstone Mountains (Saxon Switzerland), are visible on the southern horizon. The tower also functions as a clock tower for the palace complex and houses exhibits related to the palace's history. Climbing the tower's 250 stairs is rewarded with what many consider the definitive bird's-eye view of one of Europe's great Baroque ensembles.
Did you know? At 100 metres, the Hausmannsturm is the highest publicly accessible viewpoint in Dresden's historic centre, from the top you can see all the major Baroque landmarks laid out simultaneously.
