About Uetliberg

Zurich's own mountain at 870 metres, reached by the S10 city train, offering panoramic views over the city, Lake Zurich, and the Alps, with forest hiking trails.

The Uetliberg, rising to 870 metres above sea level just southwest of Zurich's city centre, is affectionately called "Zurich's own mountain", the nearest high-altitude retreat the city has to offer its residents. The summit is conveniently reached by the S10 Uetliberg railway, which departs regularly from Hauptbahnhof and winds up through forested slopes in about 25 minutes. From the summit observation tower, the panorama is spectacular: the entire city spread across the plain below, Lake Zurich stretching southeast into the distance, and on clear days the full sweep of the Swiss Alps from the Säntis to the Bernese Oberland and beyond. The Uetliberg ridge is also the starting point of the popular "Planet Trail", a scale-model walking path depicting the solar system across the mountain ridge. Numerous hiking and cycling trails lead through the beech and fir forests, including the challenging Planet Path and easier family walks. The summit hotel and restaurant make the Uetliberg an attractive destination year-round, and the winter sledding runs down the mountain are a beloved local tradition.

Did you know? The S10 train from Zurich Hauptbahnhof to Uetliberg summit takes just 25 minutes, making it Europe's most conveniently accessible urban mountain peak.
