About Mirador del Valle
The viewpoint across the Tagus where all of Toledo rises in one golden silhouette, walls, Alcázar and cathedral spire above the gorge that nearly rings the city. The classic Toledo panorama.
The Mirador del Valle is a celebrated viewpoint on the hillside south of Toledo, across the gorge of the river Tagus, directly facing the walled city. From it the whole of Toledo can be seen in a single frame: its walls and towers, the block of the Alcázar and the spire of the cathedral, with the Tagus meander wrapping the rock on which the city stands. It is the most reproduced view of Toledo, popular above all at sunset, and it makes plain the city's natural defences, a rock almost encircled by its own river. The Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Valle stands nearby. Although often described as the view El Greco painted in his famous View of Toledo, the painter in fact depicted the city from a different angle and rearranged its buildings. Reached by the Carretera de Circunvalación that loops around the city, the viewpoint overlooks the UNESCO-listed historic city of Toledo.
