About Casa de Campo
Madrid's vast urban forest and former royal hunting ground, over 1,700 hectares of woodland, a large lake, an amusement park, and a zoo on the western edge of the city.
Casa de Campo is the largest park in Madrid and one of the largest urban green spaces in Europe, a vast area of 1,722 hectares of Mediterranean woodland on the western edge of the city. The park was the private hunting estate of the Spanish royal family for over three centuries, closed to the public until 1931 when the Second Republic opened it to citizens. Today it contains a large artificial lake, rowing and pedalo facilities, a zoo, an amusement park (Parque de Atracciones), exhibition halls, sports facilities, swimming pools, cycling paths, and kilometres of walking and running tracks. The Teleférico cable car connects the park to the Parque del Oeste, offering spectacular views over the city, the Royal Palace, and the Almudena Cathedral.
Did you know? Casa de Campo is about three times the size of New York's Central Park, it is the largest urban park in Madrid and one of the largest in Europe.
