About Tate Modern

Britain's national gallery of modern and contemporary art, housed in the iconic former Bankside Power Station on the South Bank.

Tate Modern is one of the world's most visited modern art museums. Housed in the former Bankside Power Station, designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, it opened in 2000 and was extended with the striking Switch House (now Blavatnik Building) in 2016.

The collection includes works by Picasso, Dalí, Warhol, Rothko, and countless other modern masters. The vast Turbine Hall hosts monumental temporary installations that have become cultural events in their own right.

Free to enter, Tate Modern draws over five million visitors a year. The viewing gallery on the 10th floor of the Blavatnik Building offers spectacular panoramic views across London.

Did you know? The building was originally Bankside Power Station, designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, who also designed the red telephone box.
