About Glen Coe

One of Scotland's most dramatic and haunting valleys, site of the infamous 1692 massacre and a landscape of staggering beauty.

Glen Coe is widely considered one of the most spectacular and atmospheric places in Scotland. This ancient volcanic valley, carved by glaciers during the last Ice Age, is surrounded by towering mountains including Buachaille Etive Mòr, the "Great Shepherd of Etive." The glen is infamous as the site of the 1692 Massacre of Glencoe, when government soldiers who had been billeted with the MacDonald clan turned on their hosts and killed 38 men, women, and children. Today it is a paradise for hikers, climbers, and photographers.

Did you know? Glen Coe appeared in the James Bond film "Skyfall" as the location of Bond's family estate in Scotland.
