Eilean Donan Castle is one of the most iconic and photographed castles in Scotland. It stands on a small tidal island at the point where three great sea lochs meet, Loch Duich, Loch Long, and Loch Alsh, with the mountains of Kintail as a dramatic backdrop. The castle was founded in the 13th century, destroyed by Royal Navy bombardment in 1719 during a Jacobite uprising, and painstakingly rebuilt between 1919 and 1932.
