About The Little Museum of Dublin
A charming two-room Georgian museum with over 5,000 artefacts donated by Dublin citizens, telling the social history of 20th-century Dublin.
The Little Museum of Dublin is one of the city's most charming and original attractions, a two-room Georgian museum on St Stephen's Green that houses an extraordinary collection of over 5,000 artefacts, every single one donated by members of the Dublin public who were asked simply to contribute something that told a story about life in 20th-century Dublin.
The result is a wonderfully human, eclectic, and often surprising collection: photographs, posters, advertising signs, letters, household objects, political ephemera, musical memorabilia, and personal mementoes that together paint a vivid portrait of a city in transformation across the 20th century. Among the highlights are original U2 memorabilia from their early years, documents from the 1916 Rising and the subsequent War of Independence, and dozens of objects relating to Dubliners who went to war, emigrated to America, or simply lived quietly in the city.
The guided tours are excellent, witty, and opinionated, in the best Dublin tradition, and make the collection sing.
Did you know? Every artefact in the Little Museum was donated by a Dublin citizen, the museum's founders simply asked people to give something with a story about 20th-century Dublin life.
